Completed booklets need to be handed in by 4pm on Wednesday 27th October 2010 to the SES School Office.

The Flight Test Course for all Part II students will take place from 1030 on Monday 14th June until 1430 on Thursday 17th June 2010. ALL PART II STUDENTS MUST ATTEND, unless you have already attended this flight test course before or are on the Space Systems Engineering course. This is a course requirement. Students do not have to pay for this course.

The final flight schedule with group breakdown may not be released until 1030 on Monday 14th June, as flights must be planned according to groupings based on people's actual weights.

If you are unable to attend the course, or have specific constraints during the flight test course period, then please contact Dr Takeda immediately. Look at the timetable below to see if there is a particular group that you would like to be in if you have specific constraints that week.

Aims and Objectives

To reinforce and enhance the student's understanding of flight mechanics and to experience flight in a small aircraft.
The course is to extend the flight mechanics element of the undergraduate courses in Aeronautical Engineering into aircraft handling and performance, and to provide practical experience of in-flight measurement techniques and the methods of assessment of aircraft handling qualities and performance characteristics.

Lectures and Test Flights

Return coach transport to/from the University to the Airfield will be provided. Students are required to use the coaches provided due to the strict flight schedule in operation and may not travel to the airfield in their own transport.

Coursework and Assessment

  • For Part II students the course is assessed through an experimental write-up (completing the Flight Test Lab Book) which forms the 10% coursework component of the 3rd Year compulsory Aircraft Design module.
  • Completed booklets need to be handed in by 4pm on Wednesday 27th October 2010 to the SES School Office.
